‘’It's amazing for me to work at Little Smarties, it's made me a better person and helped me with what I'm going through in my life; it helps me with the pain. The kids mean the world to me and this makes a whole difference. The children in our community ask every day is it creche, is it creche? They love it.’’ Cathy, Little Smarties
“The impact of the connection with Out the Box is beyond measure in my community. Since we started the sex talk workshop we now see boys respecting girls' menstruation process which was seen as disgusting before. We are able to feed families which are fighting poverty. As one boy expressed how he is not able to go play football because he is hungry as there was nothing at home to eat. Children who come from families that didn't have bread to eat for the day are able to be supported as they now get bread at our football training. I am always grateful for the positive impact I am now able to contribute [as an educator] towards my community via the sharing of awareness to the youth, who will be leaders of the same community tomorrow.” Lunga, community educator
"The iExist, Literacy and Reading initiative has the potential to positively change the future for many young people, which can have a ripple effect on their families and communities. Even though we cannot personally lend a hand, we know that our humble financial contribution, together with other donations, can enable others to help the development of these children to give them and us hope for a better future." Ehlers family
“I care about these young people and I’m heartsore for them and such an opportunity for them at Literacy makes me so grateful, I feel so much.” Jane, Macassar community project leader

“Introducing my 15 year old daughter to Out The Box was one of the most incredible experiences for her in 2024. She chose to gift and wrap a number of her personal items to girls for Christmas, attending numerous beach events at Strand which she just loved. Seeing the delight on the children's faces and knowing that her act of kindness brought so much happiness and delight to those in need made her heart feel full. She can't wait to be involved in more initiatives this year.” Vanessa and Zoe
“Working with Out the Box has been a truly rewarding experience as it gave me the chance to connect with incredible children and their communities through volunteering at the surfing, participating in hikes and gathering donations. Spending time with the children not only opened my eyes to their resilience and unique perspectives but also reinforced the importance of creating opportunities for those who are less fortunate. It’s special to see how even small contributions can bring so much joy and hope and I feel privileged to have been part of something that fosters real connections and positive change.” Zara, Somerset College
“Out The Box has provided opportunities to expose me to areas of need and helped enrich my life and sense of purpose in helping those around me.” Sarah, Somerset College
"The Out The Box program has been a huge help not only for myself but for many more. It has been an experience I didn't think I needed. It has taught me so much as well as opened my eyes to so many things, things I didn't know I needed to know. I learn to have more patience working with kids at the Little Smarties creche. I never really realized how little patience I had til I started helping, but then I learned and grew more patient as days went on. It has helped me believe in myself and showed me that I'm more than capable to do things. Right after I graduate from high school I felt lost and purposeless but helping Out The Box gave me some hope that I will get somewhere and find purpose in this world again. My dream is to be a veterinary nurse and now this project is helping me to get work experience at animal welfare." Elrize, youth development project
“Being a part of the soup kitchen that provides a warm bowl of soup and fresh bread to the homeless people in Strand is a very humbling experience. We are all aware of the desperate plight of many of our fellow South Africans, but seeing these folk in person and offering them a small comfort in the form of a meal, echoes the spirit of Ubuntu that is such an important and necessary part of being South African. This very small act highlights how much the majority of us have to be thankful for, and reminds us in our every day endeavours to always be kind and to offer help where we can.” Lyndsay & Sebastian
“Being part of your projects, especially playing with and guiding kids during activities like Summit4Purpose and donation drives, has been truly life-changing. It’s given me a chance to inspire and be inspired, connect with young minds, and make a real difference in their lives while growing personally.” Polina
“Both my teenage boys worked with Bryony doing a number of different activities, including hiking, surfing, as well as full day activities. It gave them the opportunity to connect with people, learn about their needs, and contribute to making their lives better. From their side it was a chance for personal growth—learning compassion, teamwork, and understanding different perspectives.” Gillian
“I feel so blessed being able to contribute and be part of this amazing outreach. I feel humbled by how thankful and appreciative people are for the smallest things in life that we take for granted. Out of the Box and everyone involved from a service point of giving to the people we are able to help inspires me to be a better person!” Isél & family
